The Ultimate Guide to Electric Vehicle Car Detailing

By SuperQuick Car Detailers|

Why EV Detailing Is Different

Electric vehicles like Tesla, Mercedes EQS, BMW iX, and Porsche Taycan are increasingly common on Dubai roads. While the basic principles of detailing apply, EVs have unique considerations that affect how professionals should approach the work.

EV paint systems can differ from traditional vehicles. Tesla, for example, is known for relatively thin clear coat that requires extra care during paint correction. The high torque of electric motors means tyre and brake dust patterns differ. And the presence of high-voltage components under the hood changes how engine bay cleaning should be approached.

EV Paint Care and Ceramic Coating

Ceramic coating is particularly valuable for EVs. The aerodynamic designs of most EVs mean paint is exposed to more airflow and contaminant impact at speed. Ceramic coating protects against this while making washing easier.

For Teslas specifically, we recommend starting with a paint thickness measurement before any correction work. Some Tesla panels have thinner clear coat than industry average, requiring lighter correction techniques.

Our Adams Graphene ceramic coating (9-year warranty) and Sonax (3-year warranty) are both safe for all EV paint systems.

Interior Detailing for EVs

EV interiors often feature large touchscreens, vegan leather alternatives, and advanced electronics. Key considerations:

  • Use screen-safe cleaners on large displays (no ammonia, no alcohol-based cleaners)
  • Vegan leather (like Tesla's) requires different conditioning products than real leather
  • Avoid excessive moisture near floor-mounted battery packs
  • Clean charging port area with dry, soft brushes only
  • Be careful around any exposed high-voltage warning labels

Engine Bay (Motor Bay) Cleaning

EVs don't have traditional engines, but the motor bay still collects dust and debris. The key difference: high-voltage components require extreme caution.

We do NOT use pressure washing in EV motor bays. Instead, we use compressed air to remove loose debris, followed by gentle wipe-down with damp microfiber cloths. High-voltage connectors (usually marked with orange cables) are never touched or directly cleaned.

This is one area where professional EV detailing experience is critical. Improper cleaning can damage expensive components or create safety hazards.

EV-Specific Recommendations

Based on our experience detailing EVs across Dubai:

  • Ceramic coating is highly recommended (protects aerodynamic paint surfaces)
  • PPF on front end is valuable (EV torque means more road debris kicked up)
  • Regular foam washes prevent contamination buildup
  • Avoid automatic car washes (common advice for all vehicles, especially important for EV charging port seals)
  • Schedule detailing during charging downtime for convenience

Frequently Asked Questions

Is car detailing safe for electric vehicles?
Yes, when done by experienced professionals who understand EV-specific considerations. We detail Teslas, Mercedes EQS, BMW iX, Porsche Taycan, and other EVs regularly.
Do you clean the motor bay on EVs?
Yes, with specialized EV-safe techniques. No pressure washing near high-voltage components. We use compressed air and careful hand cleaning.
Can I get ceramic coating on my Tesla?
Absolutely. We recommend it. We measure paint thickness first and use appropriate correction techniques for Tesla's paint system before applying Adams Graphene or Sonax ceramic coating.
